Check this complete Research Review from our scientific team regarding the role of Alpha linolenic acid (ALA) in Cardiovascular disease:

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of global mortality. Dietary guidelines worldwide emphasize reducing the intake of saturated and trans fatty acids while increasing the consumption of plant oils rich in unsaturated fats, such as mono- and polyunsaturated fats. Among the polyunsaturated fats, omega-3 fatty acids, particularly, have garnered significant attention due to their vital role in human health.

ALA is the most common essential polyunsaturated fatty acid found in plant sources. It serves as a precursor to longer carbon chain fatty acids, namely eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which are important omega-3 fatty acids. ALA, derived from plants, can be obtained in notable amounts from sources such as chia seeds, walnuts, soybeans, canola oil, flaxseeds, and other plant-based foods. Apart from its role in the production of EPA and DHA, omega-3 ALA has distinct and independent health benefits.

Studies have demonstrated that consuming dietary ALA is significantly associated with reduced risk factors for cardiovascular disease, as well as decreased mortality risk from cardiovascular and coronary heart diseases.
